As Justin Bieber Said – You Should Go and Love Yourself

When this hit song came out by Justin Bieber it was meant in a ‘you only think or care about yourself‘ way. This article is the positive vibes that you should send through and listen to in your body. But got to love a JB quote every now and then. If you are needing a good reminder then read on so that you can learn to love yourself and open yourself up to more happiness.

In a busy world, where it feels like we are constantly being judged by friends, family, colleagues, strangers, enemies etc how hard do we have to work to feel happy! We mask our worries and show a perfect life but what we really need to do is be truthful to ourselves and the real life and happiness will shine through.

You see, when you look in the mirror and see disaster, pity, sadness or loneliness – it’s corny, but you are not alone! A lot of people in this world feel down when they look at their life and try to find the bright side. But there is always a bright side.

My mother has always told me, we are far better off than other people. This is in the way of education, money, health, family, government, utilities, basically everything. So from a young age, I realised to not complain (very much haha) and be grateful for what I have. These values can get lost sometimes when social media and expectations take over and everyone knows your business. But you will or have to get to the point of not worrying about what others think of you. This is half (or more) the battle when it comes to self love. The other part of the battle is of course with ourselves. Now let me introduce to you Kate.

Plant Based Kate

Kate Moore is a 23 year old blogger & YouTuber from a small town in New Zealand. As a free spirit, Kate has always had a strong sense of wanderlust & in August 2017, she finally set off to explore the world. Since then, she has been sharing her adventures online via vlogs & blog posts. Kate is super passionate about veganism, eco-travel, minimalism & creating less harm to this beautiful world we live in. To find self-love there are things we can change, learn or realise what we are already doing. Kate highlights it perfectly in 15 ways to practice self-love. My favourite 5 from the list are below:

  1. Listen to some of your favourite music – this has always been one of my best ways to lighten my mood and feel happy about myself when I’m singing and dancing in my own company at home or the car, or when out with family and friends
  2. Let that sh*t go – I love this one and it’s a challenge, but this has turned into my favourite way of self-love and happiness lately. You cannot please everyone and the only person you let down when you don’t do things, is yourself.
  3. Relax – this one can easily fly under the radar. We need to remember every now and then (more often than not) to stop, look around & embrace. I remembering doing this when I stood on top at Machu Picchu and soaked it all in and how amazing life is and how lucky I am.
  4. Clean out your wardrobe – the best thing I have done lately. I have struggled to depart with clothes over the years. However, earlier this year at a dinner with girlfriends one mentioned about the documentary The Minimalists. Since then I have thrown about 100 items of clothing out in the last few months. It has made me so much happier.  You’ll find when you start to minimalise, it becomes easier to keep throwing things away.
  5. Take a break from social media – today it can be difficult to avoid social media, it’s on our web browsers, phones, televisions.. But I tend to go through periods of laying low, especially when I am feeling exhausted or busy. Like during my time in the Peruvian amazon and had no service or data for days  – and it was one of, if not the best time of my life!
Kate traveling as a minimalist.

These are my favourite things or ways to practice self-love and reaching true happiness. Life changes all the time and we have ups and downs, but remembering to always appreciate everything is key.  Be sure to check out Kate’s website and YouTube channel to follow her journey.

  1. Great reminder, Tracy! Specially with the upcoming holidays and all the preparations and stress that it brings. Let some sh*t go and relax more – I vote for that!!

  2. Justin B had it right! And I agree with Kate that music really lifts the spirit. I also like to go for a run from time to time to clear my head

  3. This is just a great list to start off with! I love number four and five! I think cleaning out your closest is like clearing your mind! and we all need a detox from the wildness of the internet hahaha!

    1. Exactly. I feel like I can travel with a lot less and do not need a full wardrobe now after throwing so much away/given to charity.

  4. I thought the Beiber song was about telling someone else to kiss off, not about loving yourself! Hehe I must go and read the lyrics again…

    1. Lol. Justin’s song is definitely about telling someone to p*ss off, yes haha. But this is in the opposite direction this one time lol.

  5. It’s so easy to get caught up in the negative things about life, and lose the sense of who we are and what makes us happy. This year has been a year of letting things go, and making sure *I’m* the one that is happy with how I live my life and the choices that I make.

    Thanks for the reminder!

    1. I loved reading this, Kelly! That’s so good! I gave up on a lot of things this year and mostly ‘friends’ as it was a wake up call of who is there for you and who isn’t.

  6. Good tip for self-care and love ourselves. Sometimes we all feel the pressure from the surroundings and it is not easy to deal with life but these tips are useful. I got to do them myself and feel better about self-love.

    1. It’s true, Yanika! We often are so busy and then with pressure from social media and the pressure we create ourselves it all gets mixed up. When we try to get in touch with ourselves and doing things we need to or want to, we will feel better.

  7. amazing list for “loving yourself “!! Specially number 2! So good to give a shi*·$% sometimes, and relaxing also! I wrote a similar post about how to fall in love of yourself, maybe you can check it out. Thank you for sharing 🙂

    1. Thanks, Michelle! Hope the clean up went great and you feel better with items you don’t love or need anymore gone.

  8. Beautiful post! And it’s all so true! So simple but easily forgotten at times too. Cleaning out the wardrobe has a great effect on the mind!

  9. Can I just say what a aid to search out somebody who truly knows what theyre speaking about on the internet. You undoubtedly know the best way to deliver a difficulty to mild and make it important. Extra individuals must read this and understand this side of the story. I cant consider youre no more well-liked because you undoubtedly have the gift.
