Travelers will always have itchy feet. See why

When you are out exploring the world whether for a week, a month or forever, or living your normal daily routine at home, you will always have itchy feet. I’m talking about travelers specifically. Tourists can tend to be happy with a vacay and settle right back in and can think – I’ll see when I feel like traveling again. Now a traveler returns from the trip and right away they are itchy. They want to book flights, find a new destination, or return to the one they just left. Some of us are even planning the next trip while on the current one!

Our true happiness comes when we have gone through passport control, said bye to our loved ones and the plane pushes back from the gate. Even thinking of that right now gives me butterflies!

A traveler is searching, exploring, networking or just plain relaxing. We wander around looking for anything and everything. I am constantly looking for destinations from airfare sales, other bloggers, Youtube videos, going on to booking.com or Airbnb to check out prices of places. Our eyes and heart are hungry and want to be feed. When you’re a wanderer you are looking for something in this world that you haven’t seen before or can’t see back at home. Searching for something that makes our emotions and heart jump out of our body. Leaving our footprints on beaches, getting sore ankles down cobbled stone streets, running out of breath climbing hills or mountains. Leaving our imprint in places that we may never return to again. We are trying to find moments that we will cherish forever between ourselves and earth.

Each traveler is still different in the way they go about their adventures. But we all want to explore the globe as our clock is winding down every second. It’s morbid, I know – but it’s true. If I’m lucky enough to be on the planet for 85 years in the span of the life of earth itself (about 4 billion years) – why wouldn’t I want to see what’s on it before I’m gone?

We are sporadic jolly jumpers. We take a risk with destinations, food choices or whether to walk down a street or go talk to a local. Many times I’ve seen an airfare sale and just booked it, domestic and international. I’m from Australia where we’re facing a good few hours on a plane to cross international waters. But it doesn’t matter. We don’t care to fly economy and have to put up with bad airline food, smelly toilets or a screaming baby (well we kind of care, haha), just get us to our destination and we’ll be as happy as a pig in mud!

The travel bug literally does not exist but it is a ‘real’ thing. You feel sick and sad when you arrive back home. You just want to be back out exploring the world. Those itchy feet are shaking and waiting, as the only cure for the bug is to travel.

If you’re a traveler reading this, I’m sure you can agree with where I’m coming from. What better feeling is there than when you kiss everyday life goodbye, take off, and don’t know what you’ll do or see tomorrow? We aren’t running away to escape life, we are running to not let life escape us. Not much has changed each time I return home and the only thing that has changed, is me.

  1. Love this post, I’d definitely classify myself as a traveler. Having said that, I really like being back home so that I can get on with practical things like washing clothes!

  2. Oh my gosh yes! I totally resonated with everything in this!! Whenever I go home, I’m ready to leave again within the week haha

  3. Omg yes yes yes to everything you said! Traveling makes me want to travel even more. People say, but you just went somewhere last month? Don’t you want a break? Nope! lol I’m always looking at deals and planning trips lol

    1. Hahah, that’s so true, people always think we should be done but we will never be done! Thank you Michelle!

  4. The travel bug is a monster but a great one. I wish we could tow Australia close to the countries we love to visit so we could travel more often and quickly slip back to see our loved ones at home.
